Blend Photos – License unique travel photos ❘ lookphotos
14249105 - This is the total eclipse of the Sun of April 8, 2024, in a blend of two exposures to display all the fiery pink prominences that were visible during totality around the lunar disk in one image, set against the bright inner corona of the Sun with the dark disk of the Moon in silhouette in front of the Sun.
13900257 - This is a framing of the rich complex of nebulosity in and around the constellations of northern Cygnus and southern Cepheus, in a blend of "white light" images and images shot through a deep red hydrogen-alpha filter that isolates the red emission line from the gas clouds, bringing them out in much more detail than is otherwise possible.
13899927 - This is the rich nebulosity in Cygnus captured in colour but with a blend of unfiltered and filtered images for an Ha-RGB mix to bring out the faint nebulosity.
13899127 - A blend of images to show the stars of the southern sky moving from east to west (left to right) over the peaks of the Continental Divide at Herbert Lake near Lake Louise, in Banff, Alberta. The main peak at left is Mount Temple.
13898130 - This is a blend of exposures showing all the satellites (and a few aircraft) recorded by the camera on a late spring night (June 1-2, 2022) from latitude 51° North, from where and when satellites are illuminated all night long and can be seen all through the short night. This is looking almost due south.
13897963 - The 4-day-old waxing crescent Moon on April 8, 2019 in a blend of short and long exposures to bring out the faint Earthshine on the dark side of the Moon and deep blue twilight sky while retaining details in the bright sunlit crescent.
13998429 - This is a composite of the October 14,2023 annular solar eclipse at second contact. It illustrates the irregular edge of the Moon breaking up the rim of sunlight as the dark disk of the Moon became tangent to the inner edge of the Sun at second contact at the start of annularity. This is a blend of fifteen exposures taken over 20 seconds at second contact.
13899816 - This is a framing of the rich complex of nebulosity in and around the constellation of Cygnus, in a blend of "white light" images and images shot through a deep red hydrogen-alpha filter that isolates the red emission line from the gas clouds, bringing them out in much more detail than is otherwise possible.
13795790 - India. Male Bengal tiger skin (Pantera Tigris Tigris) showing the stripes that enable them to blend into their surroundings while on the hunt.
13776350 - Masters of camouflage, Commerson's frogfish (Antennarius commersoni), are effective ambush predators who blend into their spot on the reef; Hawaii, United States of America
13998273 - Colourful auroral curtains appearing in deep twilight on a Kp6 night on February 26,2023 from the Churchill Northern Studies Centre,Churchill,Manitoba,at 58° N. The blue twilight colours blend with the aurora colours to produce a multi-coloured display, with rich magentas, not deep red. The green also appears in different shades.
13898578 - The Full Moon at the equinox, on March 20, 2019, reaching full phase only fours hours after the moment of the vernal equinox, and here captured rising very shortly before the moment of the Full Moon. I shot this while the Moon was still rising and in a deep blue sky, and tinted yellow from atmospheric absorption. Even so, this is a blend of short (for the Moon) and long (for the sky) exposures to capture the dynamic range.
13898657 - The total lunar eclipse of April 4, 2015 at dawn over the Tear Drop Arch Mesa at Monument Valley, Utah. This is a blend of three exposures: a 44-second shot at f/3.5 and ISO 800 for the sky (with the camera on the Star Adventurer tracker to track the sky for the sharp stars) and an identical exposure with the tracker motor off (for the sharp foreground), plus a short 1-second exposure for the eclipsed Moon blended with its over exposed image. All frames with the 16-35mm lens at 26mm and with the Canon 60Da. Frames shot at ~6:07 am. MDT, about 4 minutes after totality as the sky and landscape w
13998299 - The setting Sun descending into a fog bank looking due west,on the evening of the vernal equinox,March 20,2023. The fog dims and reddens the Sun,illustrating atmospheric absorption, and refraction as the solar disk is quite flattened. A couple of sunspots are just visible. The colour gradient is natural and comes from the blend of fog below and clearer twilight sky above.

14248732 - This is a wide-angle view of the well-known constellations of the northern hemisphere winter season, but seen here from the southern hemisphere looking north from latitude 31° S on an austral autumn night, March 3, 2024.
14248603 - The waxing crescent Moon near Jupiter on the evening of March 14, 2024, setting into the western twilight sky on an austral autumn evening. The Moon is in thin cloud adding the colourful lunar "corona" around it from diffraction from the cloud's water droplets. Earthshine is visible on the "dark side of the Moon."
14206895 - Traditional Andalusian Salmorejo in Decorative Bowl
14249115 - This is a 200° panorama of the arch of the northern Milky Way rising over the Badlands landscape of Dinosaur Provincial Park, Alberta. This was the night of May 31/June 1, 2024, when from this latitude of 50° 45' N the sky is not fully dark even in the middle of the night, here at about 1:30 a.m. MDT. So the sky retains a blue tint, especially to the north at left.
14206900 - Single Malt Whisky Shot With Ice Cube
14275075 - Detailed close up of a gecko blending into its environment in Fuenteheridos, Huelva, Andalusia, Spain. The image highlights the lizard's texture and camouflage abilities.
14248670 - A nightscape scene under a twilight "blue-hour" sky, on the Red Rock Canyon Road in Waterton Lakes National Park, Alberta, looking west toward the sunset with the four-day-old crescent Moon setting alongside the stars of Leo to the left.
14249344 - The waxing crescent Moon near Jupiter on the evening of March 14, 2024, with the pair below Orion, all setting into the western twilight sky on an austral autumn evening. The Moon is in thin cloud adding the colourful lunar "corona" around it from diffraction from the cloud's water droplets.
14248950 - This depicts the satellite-filled sky that is now a reality and getting more crowded every week!
14206959 - Fresh Homemade Basil Pesto in Black Bowl
14249502 - This frames the entire Small Magellanic Cloud, a member of the Local Group of galaxies and a companion of our Milky Way Galaxy.
14249347 - This frames most of the intricate arcs and loops of the Vela Supernova Remnant (SNR), the remains of a star that exploded about 11,000 years ago. It is one of the closest SNRs to Earth, about 900 light years away. Most arcs and segments have no separate catalogue numbers, with the exception of the short straight Pencil Nebula, aka Herschel's Ray, in the lower left corner which is NGC 2736. It is the brightest segment of the Vela SNR visually in a telescope. The nebula complex is marked with lots of cyan arcs emitting oxygen III wavelengths, mixed with regions of red hydrogen-alpha emission.
14249326 - A nightscape scene under a moonlit sky, on the Red Rock Canyon Road in Waterton Lakes National Park, Alberta, looking back along Pass Creek to the south, with the Milky Way rising at left. Waterton is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
14248959 - This is the supernova remnant known as the Spaghetti Nebula, but more formally as Simeis 147 or Sharpless 2-240. It was discovered at the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory in 1952, an observatory also known by its name of Simeiz for the location where one of its facilities was located, thus the name of the catalogue of objects that includes entry #147. The supernova that created this nebula exploded some 40,000 years ago and is about 3,000 light years away. In the sky it stretches across more than 3°, so it is big! The field of view here is 6.6° by 4.4°. The bright star at right is Elnath in T
14248642 - The Milky Way rising over the peak of Mt. Blakiston, in Waterton Lakes National Park, Alberta, Canada. This was June 10/11, 2024, so some snow still remains at high altitudes. This is an example of a "deepscape" — a nightscape taken with a longer focal length lens than is usual for nightscapes, to frame a fragment of a landscape below an interesting area of sky with notable deep-sky objects.
14248609 - This is a selfie portrait of me under the Milky Way from my backyard in rural Alberta, on a spring night, May 9/10, 2024. The summer Milky Way and the constellations of Sagittarius and Scorpius (with yellow Antares) lie due south here, but low in the sky at my latitude of 51° N. This shows the Dark Horse well, made of dark dust lanes in the Milky Way. The galactic centre is just above the trees at centre. A meteor is at left below Altair.
14248989 - The stars and clouds trail across the sky over Cameron Lake in Waterton Lakes National Park, Alberta, and Mt. Custer across the border in Glacier National Park in Montana. The sky and mountains are illuminated by a waxing crescent Moon off frame to the right, setting in the northwest. The stars of Scorpius are rising at left. Some ice remains in this alpine lake, as this was early June 2024. Wind and the long exxposures blurs the lake surface and reflections. The hill at left is scarred by the 2017 forest fire.
14248641 - The Milky Way and its core region in Sagittarius and Scorpius is here low over the Badlands landscape of Dinosaur Provincial Park, Alberta. This was the night of May 31/June 1, 2024, when from this latitude of 50° 45' N the sky is not fully dark even in the middle of the night, here about 2:30 a.m. MDT. So the sky retains a blue tint.
14248633 - A vertical panorama of the moonlit spring sky with the Big Dipper and Arcturus over the jagged outline of Anderson Peak at the Red Rock Canyon area of Waterton Lakes National Park, Alberta, a UNESCO World Heritage site and Dark Sky Preserve.
13999700 - This is a portrait of the October 14,2023 annular eclipse of the Sun,captured in a sequence of images taken from the rim of Bryce Canyon,Utah, from sunrise until nearly the end of the eclipse before noon local time.
13999674 - This is the gathering on the evening of April 22,2023 of the waxing crescent Moon below Venus and near the Hyades star cluster in Taurus. The dim Earthshine is visible on the dark side of the Moon. High cloud added the natural glows on the Moon and Venus.
13999549 - This is the waxing gibbous Moon (11.7 days old) near reddish Mars (above the Moon),and with reddish Aldebaran and the Hyades star cluster below. All are set in a swirl of clouds, looking like they are in an interstellar nebula. Diffraction from ice crystals in the clouds adds the colourful corona around the Moon. This was the Moon-Mars conjunction of January 3,2023. Mars was then about a month past opposition.
13999527 - This is a panorama of the ground and sky framing the badlands of Dinosaur Provincial Park,in the Red Deer River valley in Alberta, with the summer sky above filled with three dozen meteors from the annual Perseid meteor shower,of August 12,2023. The meteors all appear to be streaking away from the radiant point in Perseus at far left. The location is the upper viewpoint near the Park Entrance, and looking northeast to southeast. The lights in the valley below are from the campground and service centre. The one glaring sodium vapour light should be removed or at least shielded. The brightest hori
13900618 - The galactic centre area in Sagittarius (at left) and Scorpius (at right) low in the south on a summer night at Dinosaur Provincial Park, Alberta. This was June 30/July 1, 2022. Being just 10 days after summer solstice and at latitude +50° North, the sky even to the south still has a blue tint from all-night twilight. I made no attempt to neutralize the sky colouration. In addition, some haze from smoke discoloured the sky and reduced transparency and contrast low in the sky.
13900614 - Earthshine lights the “dark side of the Moon” on the waxing crescent Moon of February 27, 2020. Stars surround the Moon in the deep twilight sky. The brightest star is 4.4-magnitude Nu Piscium.
13900215 - The Andromeda Galaxy (aka Messier 31) and the stars of Andromeda rising over moonlit formations at Dinosaur Provincial Park, Alberta. Illumination is from the waxing gibbous Moon, low in the southwest so it is providing a warm light. This is an example of a "deepscape" - a nightcape with a telephoto lens to also record a deep-sky object in the frame above the horizon. However, moonlight prevents the galaxy from showing up as well as it would in a dark sky.
13899628 - Exiting the narrow Trollfjord by searchlight and under moonlight, on the northbound voyage of the Hurtigruten ferry ship the ms Trollfjord, on October 15, 2019. Capella is at top; Betelgeuse and Orion are rising at centre at the mouth of the fjord; Aldebaran is partly in cloud left of the Moon.
13899552 - A framing of the major areas of bright and dark nebulosity in Cygnus and Cepheus, showing pink emission nebulas contrasting with dark dusty regions in the Cygnus and into the Perseus arms of the Milky Way. Cepheus is at upper left; northern Cygnus is at right, with the bright Cygnus starcloud right of centre. The reddening (or yellowing) effects of interstellar dust in the spiral arms of the Milky Way is apparent.
13899539 - The Big Dipper and Ursa Major over moonlit formations at Dinosaur Provincial Park, Alberta. Illumination is from the waxing gibbous Moon, setting in the southwest so it is providing a warm "bronze-hour" light.
13899099 - A panorama of the glacier-fed Athabasca River and peaks around Mount Fryatt in Jasper National Park, as the Milky Way is setting and the waning gibbous Moon rising, lighting the peaks of the Continental DIvide with lunar alpenglow. Mount Fryatt is at centre, while to the right is Mount Geraldine, and to the left are Brussels Peak and Mount Christie. Jasper is one of the world's largest Dark Sky Preserves.
13898584 - The summer Milky Way and galactic core area in Sagittarius, setting on a late summer evening in mid-September, with some of the foliage starting to turn to autumn colours. Thin cloud in the sky this night added the star glows naturally. This was from home in southern Alberta at latitude 51° N.
13898290 - The summer Milky Way over and reflected in the relatively calm water of Pyramid Lake in Jasper National Park, on a mid-October night. The Jasper Sky Tram adds the lights on Whistler Peak. Bands of airglow tint the sky with red. Lights from the Jasper townsite, still mostly unshielded sodium vapour lights as of 2022, add the skyglow at left. Altair is the bright star at top. The red Lagoon Nebula is just setting behind the mountain skyline. The slight wind rippled the water enough to prevent a perfect reflection.
13847642 - Salvadoran man work at a Corn tortilla dough factory in Suchitoto El Salvador. Corn has been a staple food in Central American cultures since pre-Columbian times
