This frames a selection of nebulas and star clusters in Puppis in a wide 15º by 10º field of view. At centre is the pair of contrasting and superb star clusters: rich NGC 2477 on the left and sparse but bright NGC 2451 on the right, centred on the orange star c Puppis.

This was the view as the great aurora display of May 10, 2024 suddenly and briefly brightened and converged at the zenith for a superb corona effect. This lasted no more than a minute before it dimmed and subsided again, to continue to fill the sky but with much less structure and motion. The camera at left was set up for shooting movies, but this outburst was so brief I did not have a chance to start that camera going. The Big Dipper or Plough is above centre.

This frames the dark Coal Sack nebula in Crux, the Southern Cross, here recorded as multiple dark lanes, though to the eye the Coal Sack appears as one solid dark region in the Milky Way. The bright star at bottom is Acrux, or Alpha Cruxis, while the star at top is Becrux, or Beta Cruxis. Acrux is a superb double star in a telescope but it is not resolved here at this scale.

A superb display of aurora borealis seen on March 14, 2016 when it reached Level 5 storm levels. Here it begins in the evening twilight and in the light of the 6-day-old Moon. Jupiter is at right. This view is looking east.

A framing of the converging rays of aurora overhead at the magnetic zenith,a little south of the true zenith at 90° altitude. This was the superb Kp6 to 7 display on March 23,2023,with the aurora in a pulsating mode rather than forming rippling curtains. Leo is just below the convergence point. The Big Dipper is at top. At this time later in the display the rays showed a lot of red as well as green. A short exposure helped freeze the rapid pulsations and capture the structure.

A framing of the converging rays of aurora overhead at the magnetic zenith,a little south of the true zenith at 90° altitude. This was the superb Kp6 to 7 display on March 23,2023,with the aurora mostly in a pulsating mode rather than forming rippling curtains. This was early on in the evening when the sky still had some twilight colours, and with sunlight illuminating the high curtains. Orion is at lower right.

A superb and extensive display of noctilucent clouds at dawn on July 16, 2022, with the clouds reaching up to the zenith as the sky brightened. Capella is the star right of centre; Venus is rising at lower right. This is looking northeast to the dawn twilight.

The False Comet Cluster area of southern Scorpius, which includes the open cluster NGC 6231 and emission nebula IC 4628, and open cluster NGC 6242 at top. This is a superb binocular field.

IC 1318 area of Cygnus around Gamma Cygni. Stack of 4 x 15 minute exposure on a superb night, with TMB 92mm apo with Canon 5D MkII at ISO 400. A cooler night than previous ones as well, so lower base noise. Borg FF.

A selfie of me observing Saturn – the object to the left of the telescope - on August 28,2023,with Saturn near opposition this night, and with the almost Full Moon lighting the sky and ground, but here hidden behind the telescope. I am observing with the 30-year-old (but still superb) Astro-Physics 130EDT refractor on the AP Mach1 mount.

A superb and extensive "grand display" of noctilucent clouds at dawn on July 16, 2022, with the clouds eventually reaching up to the zenith as the sky brightened. Many ripples and wave structures are visible in the clouds.

NGC 7000 and Pelican Nebula with TMB 92mm apo and Canon 5D Mk II on a superb night, with stack of 2 x 15 minutes + 2 x 12 minutes at ISO400 and Borg 0.85x flattener/reducer for f/4.6. Standard exposure is 12 minutes but the night was so good I did two at 15 minutes with no problem.
