$A telescopic closeup of Comet Lovejoy (C/2014 Q2) on January 19, 2015. I shot this from near Silver City, New Mexico, using a TMB 92mm apo refractor at f/4.4 and using a Canon 6D at ISO 1600 for a stack of 4 x 5 minute exposures. The ion tail is primarily from a single exposure to minimize blurring from the comet’s motion relative to the stars. The rest of the image is from the stacked combination to minimize noise.$

This is the sequence of the total eclipse of the Sun over the waters of Lac Brome, in the Eastern Townships of Quebec, Canada, on April 8, 2024. Onto the base single exposure of the totally eclipsed Sun set in the darkened eclipse sky I have layered in images of the pre- and post-totality partial phases taken every 5 minutes from the start to the end of the eclipse. As the Sun moved across the sky from left to right, the Moon moved across the disk of the Sun from right to left.

The March 5, 2015 “mini-Moon” rises over the Santa Rita Copper Mine, east of Silver City, New Mexico. This was the night of the farthest Full Moon of 2015, the apogee Moon. I caught the Moon as it was rising behind the Mine and the cliff formation known locally as the Kneeling Nun.

Clouds partly obscure the gibbous Moon but add a colourful iridescent corona around the Moon, which is reflected in the Red Rock Canyon Creek. This is an HDR stack of 5 exposures with the 14mm lens and Canon 6D, to preserve detail in the bright clouds and the disk of the Moon, and in the dark shadows.
