A selfie of me observing Mars, the bright object at top, in Taurus, on a mild winter night from home on December 9, 2022. Mars was then two days past opposition and at its brightest. The waning gibbous Moon is the bright glow at left, lighting the sky blue and the snowy landscape below with sparkling moonlight. Orion is rising behind me, while Gemini is at far left.

A vertical panorama of the summer Milky Way over the observing field at the Saskatchewan Summer Star Party, held in Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park in southwest Saskatchewan, Canada, at a latitude 49° N. The Park is a Dark Sky Preserve. This was August 26, 2022 on a perfect night of stargazing under very clear skies. The Milky Way extends from Sagittarius near the horizon, to Cygnus nearly overhead at this time, so a vertical sweep of 90°. I've left the satellite trails in for this scene.

This is the Perseid meteor shower over the badlands of Dinosaur Provincial Park,in the Red Deer River valley in Alberta, with the summer sky above filled with about two dozen meteors from the annual shower on August 12,2023. The meteor trails are shortest near the radiant point,as at that location they are coming at us head on. The Andromeda Galaxy is near centre.

The faint nebula at centre is unidentified – the nebulas Sharpless 2-209 and Sharpless 2-206 are in the area but their positions on the TriAtlas do not coincide with the nebula recorded here. Nor is it marked on any other atlas I was able to check. But the TriAtlas might plot the Sharpless nebulas incorrectly. But photos on-line label this object as Sh2-209. The bright star at bottom right is Lambda Persei.

Circumpolar star trails at dawn over the historic Butala homestead at the Old Man on His Back Prairie and Heritage Conservation Area in southwest Saskatchewan, taken May 2015. This is a stack of 70 frames from a larger time-lapse sequence, from the start of the sequence in the dusk twilight, with some aurora active and adding green and magenta to the sky. Cassiopeia is at left over the house.

This is the central area of Cygnus and its bright Milky Way starcloud surrounded by red nebulosity. At left is the star Sadr (gamma Cygni) with the complex of nebulosity catalogued as IC 1318. At centre is the distinct Crescent Nebula, NGC 6888, a expanding nebula created by winds from a hot Wolf-Rayet star. At bottom left is the star cluster Messier 29, though looking a little lost in the rich starfields here. At top is the cluster IC 1311, looking more obvious than M29 but not observed visually and included in the NGC catalog. Odd. At far right are the large and loose star clusters NGC 6883

A framing of most of the constellation of Perseus, with the brightest star in the constellation, Mirfak or Alpha Persei at centre. At lower right is Algol, the Demon Star. At top is the Double Cluster of stars, aka NGC 868 and 884, while at top left is the Heart and Soul Nebula complex, aka IC 1805 and IC 1848. The small star cluster NGC 1245 lies between Mirfak and Algol. The bright Messier cluster M34 is just off frame at right. The bright blue stars surrounding Mirfak are the Perseus OB3 Association, or Melotte 20, aka the Alpha Persei Moving Group.
