This frames the famous Pleiades or Seven Sisters star cluster (aka Messier or M45) set amid a dusty starfield in Taurus. The blue stars of the Pleiades are surrounded by bright blue reflection nebulosity, most prominent below the lower star Merope, a bit of nebula catalogued separately as NGC 1435. The odd horizontal spike above Merope is real and is catalogued as van den Bergh 20.
